Karachi Kings edge past Islamabad United by 4 wickets, qualify for PSL playoffs

Bowlers put in an excellent performance to help Karachi Kings register a four-wicket win over Islamabad United in the 28th match of 2020 Pakistan Super League played at National Stadium. With this result, Kings have managed to secure their place in the playoffs of the tournament.

The day started with Karachi Kings Captain Imad Wasim and opted to bowl first with the surface being on the slower side. Islamabad United got off to a brisk start, courtesy 35-run partnership from openers Rizwan Hussain and Philip Salt.

Pacer Umaid Asif came into the attack and dismissed Rizwan Hussain to provided crucial breakthrough for Karachi. Rizwan Hussain scored 17 runs off 14 balls with the help of two boundaries.

Wicket-keeper Philip Salt scored 25 runs off 19 balls with the help of 3 fours and 1 six. Captain Shadab Khan, Colin Ingram, Faheem Ashraf and Zafar Gohar produced double-digit scores to see Islamabad United post 136 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

For Islamabad, Hussain Talat playing his first PSL game after long time put in splendid performance with the bat. Left-hander finished the innings with the top-score of 37 runs off 30 balls with the help of 4 boundaries.

For Kings, it was a collective effort from the bowling unit as the likes of Umaid Asif, Chris Jordan, Imad Wasim, Arshad Iqbal and Iftikhar Ahmed claimed one wicket apiece.

Chasing 137 runs to seal their place in the playoffs, Sharjeel Khan delivered a blistering innings to help Karachi get off to a flying start. Left-hander smashed 37 runs off 14 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes. Due to whirlwind innings from Sharjeel Khan, Kings managed to score 60 runs in the initial set of five overs.

Babar Azam, Cameron Delport and Captain Imad Wasim contributed with crucial scores to help Kings get close to the target. Azam scored 19 runs off 20 balls with the help of 3 boundaries, whereas Wasim chipped in with 26 runs off 34 balls with the help of two fours and one six.

Due to crucial runs scored by wicket-keeper Chadwick Walton and tail-ender Umaid Asif, Karachi Kings were able to cross the finish line in the final over of the innings.

For United, Shadab Khan was the best bowler on display with 2 for 28 in his four overs. Mohammad Musa, Akif Javed, Zafar Gohar bowled well and claimed one wicket each.

For his onslaught in the initial Powerplay overs, Sharjeel Khan was named player of the match.
