Kamran Akmal’s splendid ton sparks Peshawar Zalmi over Karachi Kings

Kamran Akmal produced a stellar ton for Peshawar Zalmi against Karachi Kings in the Qualifier 2 of the Pakistan Super League 2017.Akmal came good with the bat in a crunch game after going through a lull in the last five games. Dawid Malan and Marlon Samuels also chipped in with handful knocks to help Peshawar score 181 runs from 20 overs. Peshawar’s bowling attack also raised their game to outgun Kings by 24 runs to go through to finals of the league to face off Quetta Gladiators.

Karachi Kings never looked settled in the chase in the pursuit of a competitive total of 182 posted by Peshawar Zalmi. Kings most prolific scorer Babar Azam fell early in the innings dismissed by fast bowler Chris Jordan. Kings Skipper Kumar Sangakkara also tried to up the rate of scoring with a six against off-spinner Hafeez. He stay at the crease was short as Wahab Riaz dismissed him to see fortunes turn in favor of Peshawar. Gayle played an indifferent innings as he started slowly and hit a couple of fours in his innings while there was flurry of wickets at the other end. He added 45 runs with Pollard as Kings momentarily had a glimmer of hope of pulling off an improbable win in the game. Gayle was dismissed by Riaz to end an ominous looking stand for Peshawar.

Pollard stayed at the crease as he smashed big blows to keep his side in the hunt. Imad Wasim also struck boundaries to increase rate of scoring. Wahab Riaz and Chris Jordan took three wickets apiece on the night.

Earlier in the day, Karachi Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first. Kamran Akmal made his intentions with the bat as he went on the charge from ball one to add 97 runs for the opening wicket. Malan played for well for his 33 runs but was dismissed to see Kings get their first wicket breakthrough of the innings. Akmal smashed a splendid ton off 65 balls as he struck seven sixes in his innings. Marlon Samuels proved to be able partner at the other end to add another 77 runs to see Peshawar post a mammoth total on the board.

Kamran Akmal’s blazing knock helped Peshawar overcome Kings in the Qualifier 2 of the competition. Peshawar Zalmi will now face Quetta Gladiators that will be played at Lahore in Pakistan. It is going to be a watershed moment for Pakistan Cricket as the finale of the Pakistan Super League 2017 will be played in Pakistan.
