Wahab Riaz and Hasan Ali delivered clinical bowling performances followed by Kamran Akmal’s blazing ton was enough to see Peshawar Zalmi beat Quetta Gladiators in the 4th match of 2020 Pakistan Super League played at National Cricket Stadium in Karachi on Saturday.
The day started with Peshawar Zalmi Captain Darren Sammy once again winning the toss and opting to bowl first. Quetta openers Jason Roy and Shane Watson got the side off to decent start and added 33 runs in the first four overs. Wahab Riaz came into the attack and dismissed Watson to see Quetta Gladiators lose their first wicket of the innings. Ahmed Shehzad also failed to make an impression and perished after scoring 12 runs.
Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed came to the crease and put on a 62-run partnership with Jason Roy to stabilize the innings for Quetta Gladiators. Opener Jason Roy was the standout performer with the bat and finished the innings with top-score of 73 runs off 57 balls with the help of six fours and one six. He was well supported by Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, who scored 41 runs off 25 balls with the help of five fours and one six.
For Peshawar Zalmi, Wahab Riaz was the pick of the bowlers in this game. Left-arm quick claimed two wickets and conceded just 21 runs from his four overs. Mohammad Amir Khan, Rahat Ali and Darren Sammy claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Peshawar openers T0m Banton and Kamran Akmal got the side off to a flying start. Tom Banton once again failed to deliver runs with the bat. Youngster Haider Ali came to the crease and put on a 82-run partnership with Kamran Akmal to put Peshawar Zalmi on top in the contest.
Kamran Akmal notched up his third century in the history of Pakistan Super League. He delivered a scintillating innings of 101 runs off 55 balls with the help of 13 fours and 4 sixes. He was well supported by Haider Ali, who chipped in with 25 runs off 28 balls with the help of two four and one six.
Liam Dawson and Liam Livingstone batted well to see Peshawar Zalmi complete the chase in the penultimate over of the innings.
For Quetta Gladiators, pace duo of Sohail Khan and Tymal Mills bowled well and claimed one wicket.
For his blistering century, Kamran Akmal was named player of the match.
