The second one day game of the bilateral series between hosts West Indies and England played at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium in Antigua turned out to be much closer affair than the first one.
Chasing a modest total of 226 runs, England eventually the game and series as Joe Root led the way with the bat as he scored unbeaten 90 runs along with Woakes to steer visitors to win the game by 4 wickets. Jason Roy was breathtaking with his stroke play at the top of the order. Ashley Nurse and Devendra Bishoo made life tough for England’s middle order to see the slump from 87 for 1 to 124 for 6 and on the brink of losing the plot with the bat.
Joe Root stayed calm and rotated the strike beautifully as he first added 86 runs with Jason Roy at the start of the innings and then added match winning 102-run stand with Woakes to clinch a close win for England
Earlier, Kraigg Brathwaite played well for his 42 runs after Jason Holder won the toss for West Indies and batted first on a slowish surface. Jason Mohammad scored 50 runs off 73 balls while Jonathan Carter chipped with 39 runs to see West Indies register 226 from 50 overs. Steve Finn and Adil Rashid picked up two wickets apiece.
England have sealed the series and have taken unassailable 2-0 lead in the three match series with final game to be played at Kensington Oval, Barbados on 9th March.
