Rising Pune Supergiant imperious run of form continued as they toppled Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs in a game played at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Jaydev Unadkat took five wickets to help Pune edge past defending Champions Sunrisers in a close finish. Ben Stokes did the damage with upfront by taking big wickets of Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson to put Sunrisers in a lot of trouble while chasing a score of 149 runs registered by Pune.
Stokes first got Dhawan off a delivery that kept low to clean bowled him for 11 runs while Williamson was undone by one that bounced sharply to see MS Dhoni take a regulation catch behind the stumps. Sunrisers were reduced to 29 for 2 as David Warner was joined Yuvraj Singh in the middle as duo fought back as they added 54 runs. Warner played well for his 40 runs off 34 balls and took the charge to the spinners striking off-spinner Washington Sundar for three fours in an over.
Steve Smith saw the partnership building up so he brought Stokes back into the attack as Englishmen struck immediately to see Warner walk back to the pavilion. Imran Tahir put Pune on top by dismissing Moises Henriques with a superb googly. Yuvraj continued to play his shots as required run-rate kept creeping up. He was ultimately dismissed for 47 runs by left arm seamer Unadkat to see Pune take firm control of the game. Stokes top-scored with 39 runs while Smith and Dhoni chipped in with crucial 30s to see Pune put up 149 runs on the boards from 20 overs.
