Mumbai Indians clinched a thrilling win in the super-over to beat Gujarat Lions in the 35th game of Indian Premier League. Lions bowled well in the last passage of play to see the game end in a tie which led to the Super-Over. Kieron Pollard smoked a four and six against James Faulkner to see Mumbai set 12 run score for Gujarat to win the game. Jaspreet Bumrah bowled splendidly well and zoned in with consistent yorkers to keep Brendon McCullum and Aaron Finch failed to get the ball off the square
Mumbai committed a lot of errors that could have cost them the game against Gujarat at Rajkot as visitors needed only 27 runs with 5 wickets in hand only for them to falter and end up getting the tie. Gujarat Lions batted first as Ishan Kishan scored 48 runs to help the side post 153 runs off 20 overs. The big guns like McCullum, Raina and Finch fell for single-digit scores in the game. James Faulkner and Andrew Tye chipped in with brisk cameos to take Gujarat cross 150-run mark.
Parthiv Patel top-scored with 70 runs off 44 balls to keep Mumbai Indians stay in the hunt to chase down the score posted by Gujarat Lions. Nitish Rana and Rohit Sharma fell for low scores while Krunal Pandya’s 28 runs helped the visitors secure a tie after playing poor cricket in the last five overs of the innings. Basil Thampi produced an outstanding spell of bowling as he bagged three wickets and conceded 29 runs from his four overs.
Gujarat Lions will be disappointed after losing the game to Mumbai in the Super-Over while Rohit Sharma and co. go top with 14 points from 9 games played so far in the Indian Premier League 2017.
