Jason Roy’s masterclass helps England defeat Srilanka by 6 wickets

The 4th game of the one day series was played between England and Srilanka at the Oval, London. England once again produced the goods after a blistering innings produced by England opener who scored 162 runs to help his side to win the game by six wickets via D/L method to win the series 2-0.The match was affected by rain as Srilanka posted a formidable 305 runs in 42 overs on a placid pitch offering no assistance for the bowlers. With the overcast conditions prevalent at the ground, Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to field first to make use of the surface. The Lankan started slow and but gradually gained ascendancy when Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka put on a 128 run stand to put Srilanka in a better position in the game.

England bowlers found nothing from the surface as they struggled to contain the Srilankan side from getting quick runs. Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews also came and chipped in with brisk half centuries to take the score for the side to 305 runs after 42 overs. England started slowly as Nuwan Pradeep dismissed Moeen Ali early in the innings but Jason Roy and Joe Root put on 149 run stand to keep the side in the hunt to chase down the score and score regular boundaries. Joe Root scored 65 runs off 54 balls and struck nine boundaries in his innings. He fell for 65 as he top-edged a delivery to fine leg from Danushka Gunathilaka. Roy continued his quick start to bring up his third century of his career in 74 balls.He went on to score 162 runs off 118 balls and hit thirteen boundaries and three sixes in his innings. Skipper Morgan and Bairstow kept the scoreboard moving along nicely as England reached the target in 40th over of the game to complete their second highest successful run chase in one day internationals.
