Reigning Champions Jamaica Tallawahs confirmed their place in the knockout phase with a dominant win over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in a game played in Caribbean Premier League.
Jamaica Captain Kumar Sangakkara top scored with 69 runs to see the side put 157 runs from 20 overs. The bowlers backed it up with a clinical performance for Jamaica as they dismissed for 116 runs to win the game by 41 runs. Oshane Thomas and Krishmar Santokie took three wickets to stifle Patriots batting lineup in the chase.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots won the toss and elected to field first. Jamaica Tallawahs suffered an early setback as Lendl Simmons departed for a golden duck. However, Glenn Phillips and Kumar Sangakkara led the revival for Jamaica as the duo put together 81-run stand in space of ten overs. Mohammad Nabi dismissed Phillips for 31 to see Jamaica lose their second wicket in 11th over of the innings.
Mohammad Hafeez bowled a miser spell and conceded just 15 runs from his four-over spell. Sangakkara played well to notch up his third fifty of the competition. Rovman Powell scored 43 runs off 26 balls to see Tallawahs post 157 runs.
Patriots slumped to 93 for 6 in the chase after a probing spell from Oshane Thomas in the early part of the innings. He trapped Chris Gayle right in front to see Patriots in all sorts of trouble. Mohammad Sami bowled an erratic first spell to see Lewis take full opportunity to score runs. He smashed 40 runs off 17 balls but perished in bid to go for a big shot.
Krishmar Santokie dismissed Mohammad Hafeez and Jonathan Carter in the middle overs to see Patriots lose wickets at regular intervals of the game. Thomas came back in his second spell to dismiss Mohammad Nabi and Carlos Brathwaite to seal the game for Jamaica who wrapped up the win in the 17th over by dismissing Patriots for 116 runs.
Jamaica Tallawahs are now placed at second place with 12 points while Patriots are still third even after losing to defending champions in this game.
