The first Test match played between West Indies and India played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua turned out to be a perfect start for the visitors. The Indian side led by Captain Virat Kohli recorded their biggest win in terms of innings in game played away from home.Virat Kohli led superbly from the front as he scored 200 runs to help his side to post 566 runs on the board after India won the toss and decided to bat first.
He was supported by Ravi Ashwin who scored 113 runs to help India get a big score in the first innings. West Indies in their first innings did not offer any resistance as they were dismissed for 243 runs.Kraigg Brathwaite top scored with 74 runs for West Indies in the first innings. Indian pace bowlers were clinical in their performances as Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Shami picked four wickets each.
India did enforce the follow-on with a commanding lead of over 300 runs in hand. West Indies again folded for 231 runs in the second innings due to some fantastic spin bowling exhibited by right-arm off spinner Ravi Ashwin. Marlon Samuels scored his first half century after a lean run and Carlos Brathwaite did provide fireworks with the unbeaten brisk fifty down the order but the result in the end was India winning in a resounding fashion. The situation seemed inevitable as India completed a dominant win by an innings by 92 runs to lead 1-0 in four test match series. Ashwin finished with figures of 7 for 83 runs to cap off an amazing performance to be awarded man of the match with his efforts with both bat and ball.
