The third and final test between Srilanka and South Africa was played at the Wanderers, Johannesburg. The game saw yet another meet surrender from the Srilankan batting lineup as South African attack produced clinical performance to see the side win by an innings and 118 runs. The host dominance meant a 3-0 whitewash in the series as the visitors looked increasingly out of sorts in the games played on livelier surfaces produced at Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Another abject display with the bat saw Srilanka batting twice on the same day and lost 16 wickets to see South Africa complete another dominant performance. South African Captain Faf du Plessis decided to enforce the follow-on after Srilanka were bundled out for 131 in the first innings. The second innings proved to a similar story as the side folded yet again for 177 runs in 43 overs to see hosts win the game and complete 3-0 whitewash on the islanders.
The newcomer Duanne Olivier replaced Kyle Abbott in this game as Wayne Parnell was slotted in for spinner Keshav Maharaj to see the hosts go with all-out pace attack. Rabada was once again the aggressor with the ball upfront while Philander was top notch in his early innings. It was good game for debutant Olivier who bagged five wickets while Parnell will be relatively much happier after taking six wickets in the test match.
Earlier in the game, South Africa batted first to score 426 runs in their first innings as Hashim Amla and JP Duminy scored tons to see their side in a commanding position in the game after first two days of the game. Srilanka batted poorly in their first innings and got dismissed for 131 runs as du Plessis enforced follow-on to see the visitors produced another no show with the bat to see South Africa produce another terrific performance at Johannesburg.
