Hosts win third T20I by five-wickets in Mumbai on Sunday
Another dominant performance from India was enough to see them complete clean sweep over Sri Lanka as the home side cruised to a five-wicket win in Mumbai on Sunday.Compared to the first two matches, where there was simply no competition between the two sides, the visitors put a much better show against a weakened home team, who made more changes to experiment before the all-important South Africa tour.
The day started India stand-in captain Rohit Sharma winning the toss and opting to bowl first on a ground where historically teams prefer to chase. And Sharma’s decision paid instant dividend as the hosts were reduced to 18 for three in the fourth over, courtesy sublime bowling performance from left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat.
From there on, it was the case of rescue mission for the Islanders, who managed to post just 135 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs.Right-handed batsman Asela Gunaratne finished the innings with the top score of 36 off 37 balls including three boundaries, whereas all-rounder Dasun Shanaka made valuable contribution of unbeaten 29 off 24 with the help of two sixes.
Chasing 136 to seal the series sweep did not look much of a problem at the innings break, but resilient Sri Lanka side, whose pride were at stake after thrashing in the series-opening two games, was not willing to go down without a fight and .Even though Sri Lankan bowlers managed to get wickets of in-form opening payer of Sharma and KL Rahul early, but even that was never going to be enough as the Men in Blue completed the target in the final over.
Middle-order batsman Manish Pandey finished the innings with the top score of 32 off 29 with the help of four boundaries, and he was equally well supported by young Shreyas Iyer, who scored 30 off 32 balls with the help of a six and a four. For Sri Lanka, pacers Dushmantha Chameera and Shanaka claimed two wickets each.
For his outstanding bowling performance, Unadkat was awarded man of the match
