Host Australia eye supremacy against inexperienced Pakistan

Host Australia and Pakistan will fight it out in the opening game of the two-match Test series at The Gabba in Brisbane on Thursday. The series will be of importance to both the teams as Australia will be looking to build on the excellent performance shown in the Ashes series. On the other hand, Pakistan will want to make amends for their poor records in Australia. The side has lost 12 Test matches in a row in the country since November 1999.

The home side will go into the series as strong favorites because of two reason; one – because the team would be looking to climb the table in the ICC Test Championship after retaining the Ashes against England on English soil. They would be aiming to complete clean sweep over Pakistan in this Test series.

In the batting department, the hosts will be depending on the experience of David Warner, Steven Smith and young Marnus Labuschagne to provide the bulk of the runs.

Opener David Warner will be looking to find form with the bat in red-ball cricket. He will be responsible to get the side off to a flying start at the top of the innings.Joe Burns is all set to open the innings for Australia in this opening game of the series at The Gabba.

Tim Paine’s side will face Pakistan in opening game of the Test series at The Gabba.

In the bowling department, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will be keen to make early inroads with the new-ball, whereas Nathan Lyon will lead the spin attack.

On the other hand, Pakistan delivered impressive performances in the two warm-up games played at Perth Stadium. Captain Azhar Ali will be looking to lead from the front and deliver a big innings against Australia.

Pakistan will be depending on the experience of Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq in the batting department, whereas leg-spinner Yasir Shah will lead an inexperience bowling attack. Naseem Shah is all set to make his debut for Pakistan in this game.
