Gujarat Lions outclass Royal Challengers Bangalore despite Kohli’s superlative century.

The nineteenth game of the Indian Premier League 2016 saw Royal Challengers Bangalore compete against Gujarat Lions at Saurashtra Cricket Stadium at Rajkot.Virat Kohli won the toss for Royal Challengers Bangalore as he decided to bat first on a sluggish Rajkot pitch.

Virat Kohli seems to be unstoppable force at the moment, as he struck his first hundred in T20 cricket and also his first in the Indian Premier against Gujarat Lions. He really toyed with the bowling lineup and found gaps at will.He did make a great start to the tournament consistently scoring fifties but this time he went one better to score a century off 63 balls that included eleven fours and one six.Though AB de Villiers had a quite game, but KL Rahul stood up to the occassion as he scored 50 runs off 35 balls and hit four fours and three sixes to take Royal Challengers to post 180 runs after 20 overs.

Gujarat Lions in response started briskly as Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum went on the charge from the word go in the early overs.Though the rate of scoring was at a decent level when McCullum departed to leave Gujarat lions two wickets down for 87 runs after 8 overs. The pitch wasn’t that easy but the new ball made it easier for openers to get quick runs under their belt.Gujarat Lions captain Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik put up a 50 run partnership as they rotated the strike well to keep the scoreboard ticking along nicely keeping in mind the target.Though Raina departed,Dinesh Karthik accelerated to score a half century off  39 balls to steer his side to victory by 6 wickets.

Royal Challengers Banglore bowling was lackluster as they failed to maintain tidy lengths to keep Gujarat Lions out of the game. The win puts Gujarat Lions at second place behind Kolkata Knight Riders who currently sit at the top of table in ninth edition of the Indian Premier League.
