The first T20 game of the series between Srilanka and Australia was played at Pallekele in Kandy. The visitors continued their winning ways to win by 85 runs after Glenn Maxwell batting blitzkrieg saw the side pile up a record breaking total of 263 runs after 20 overs.
Earlier in the day, Srilanka won the toss and elected to field first. That was probably only thing went in their favor as injured Aaron Finch provided an ray of opportunity to Glenn Maxwell to showcase his numerous skills with the bat.Maxwell looked hungry and was keen to set the record straight after being dropped from the one day side. He delivered an unbelievable innings as destroyed the Srilankan bowlers to all parts of the ground to amass huge total on the board. His belligerence meant that his captain David Warner was reduced to a mere spectator as he went gung-ho against bowlers. He scored unbeaten 145 runs off 65 balls to see Australia score 263 runs on the board. The spell-binding innings saw him struck fourteen fours and nine sixes as bowlers looked clueless in the game. He added 109 runs with Travis Head who played well for his 45 runs off 18 balls to drive the impetus in favor of Australia after the half way mark.
The start for Srilanka was bad one as openers Kusal Perera and Tillakaratne Dilshan perished trying to be aggressive from the word go against likes of Starc and co. James Faulkner also dismissed Dhananjaya de Silva for 12 to see Srilanka placed at 45 for 3 after 5 overs. Skipper Chandimal yet again top scored with 58 runs and was supported by Chamara Kapugedera to see them end up with 178 runs after 20 overs. It was always going to be one-sided after a blitz from Maxwell saw Australia produce a big score on the board. Srilanka lost the game by 85 runs and we need to look their combination to put up a better display to square the series in the next game.
