West indies put in a commanding performance against a decent South Africa when they played at Vidarbha Cricket Stadium,Nagpur in Group 1 of ICC T20 World Cup 2016.
The Calypso Kings completed a three wicket win over Proteas in the game and managed to claim a place in the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2016.
South Africa struggles continued in the tournament and did not manage to seize the critical moments in each game they have played thus far.South Africa still a one remaining fixture against Srilanka after this loss .West indies came into the game enjoying good run of form winning three matches against top sides like England,South Africa and Srilanka.South Africa did manage to make in roads into the West indies batting line up in the chase by getting Chris Gayle early in the innings.
Andre Fletcher formed a partnership with opener Johnson Charles to lead West indies recovery after the loss of an early wicket.Rilee Rossouw did manage to produce a moment of brilliance as he ran Andre Fletcher out to bring South Africa back into the game.Johnson Charles also failed to capitalize on his good start as they threw his wicket away and was eventually dismissed by medium pacer David Wiese.
Marlon Samuels assessed the conditions to a tee as he struck match winning run a ball 44 runs to steer his side close towards the target.It was too late for South Africa in the end as Chris Brathwaite hit the winning runs to take West indies through to the semifinals of the tournament.
Earlier in the day Westindian Captain Darren Sammy won the toss and decided to field first on a sluggish surface at Nagpur.South Africa got off to a wretched start as half the side was back in hunt inside 10 overs.The Proteas were reeling at 47 for 5 but a partnership between opener Quinton De Kock and David Wiese helped the team reach a respectable total of 122 runs after 20 overs.The loss for South Africa means are on the brink of exit in the tournament if England beat Srilanka in the next game on Saturday.
