The sixth game of Indian Premier League 2016 saw Gujarat Lions take on Rising Pune Supergiants at Rajkot. It was yet another one sided game as Gujarat Lions comfortably chased down the target set by Rising Pune Supegiants.
The signs looked ominous for Gujarat Lions when Rising Pune Supergiants were threatening to score over 180 runs only to be curtailed by some exceptional bowling in the death overs to restrict them to 164 runs after 20 overs.Aaron Finch and Brendon McCullum provided rollicking start for Gujarat Lions as they put on a 85 run stand for the opening wicket.
The bowlers for Supergiants were ordinary as they leaked runs at regular intervals as Aaron Finch went after leg spinner Murugan Ashwin as he clobbered four fours in his over.Brendon McCullum on the other end was also unforgiving on anything loose provided by the bowlers as he scored 49 runs off 31 balls that included three fours and three sixes.
Earlier in the day,Rising Pune Supergiants won the toss and decided to bat first on a good surface prepared at Rajkot. The innings at the start was Rahane and du Plessis effort to build on a foundation for some later hitters to push the score over 180 runs.Faf du Plessis was the top scorer in the innings compiling 69 runs off 43 balls that included five fours and four sixes to steer the innings at a nice rate.Kevin Pietersen scored 37 runs off 31 balls as he proved to be ideal foil for the Faf du Plessis at the other end.
The turning point of the innings was last few overs in which Rising Pune could not score big runs as expected as Jadeja and Bravo bowled tidy spells at the death overs. The loss for Rising Pune is their first one since making their debut in this year’s Indian Premier League while Gujarat Lions continue their good run under Suresh Raina.
