Pakistan announced their one day squad for the tour of England and Ireland on Tuesday. There is big surprise in the squad as veteran fast bowler Umar Gul has made a comeback and is selected in the 15 man squad for the five match series played after the conclusion of the fourth and final test played at the Oval.
Umar Gul comes into the side after being sidelined for almost 12-15 months. The fast bowler last played a game against Bangladesh in Dhaka in April 2015.He was axed from the squad after that due to lack of fitness and form. Gul has taken 173 wickets in 126 matches in one day internationals but the recent years his career has been marred by frequent injuries. Azhar Ali is all set to lead the one day side with new players like Hasan Ali also included in the lineup. The other key omissions include opener Ahmed Shahzad and Umar Akmal who have been sidelined previously due to lack of discipline in the setup.
Chairman of Selectors for Pakistan side Inzamam-ul-Haq stated that squad selected for the tour has nice blend of youth and experience that can perform well in the one day format. He said that the inclusion of young players like Hasan Ali means that the selection committee has intentions to build depth in the squad for the future.Ali had a nice outing with Pakistan A side that toured England earlier this month where he took 20 wickets from eight games.
