Evin Lewis’s breezy innings helps Patriots trounce St Lucia

The tenth game of 2017 Caribbean Premier League saw St Kitts and Nevis Patriots notch up their third consecutive win in a row after brushing aside St Lucia Stars by 33 runs.

Evin Lewis came to the fore in this game as left-handed smashed 92 runs off just 52 balls to see his side post 196 runs off their 20 overs. Darren Sammy won the toss and opted to bowl first as his side found no luck as it rained fours and sixes throughout the innings courtesy of a stellar display by Lewis with the bat. He looked composed as his partner and skipper Chris Gayle was dismissed early in the innings. Lewis held the innings together as others fell around to see side placed at 139 for 4 after 15 overs. Carlos Brathwaite and Mohammad Nabi played brisk cameos as it helped Patriots score almost 55 runs off the last five overs. Jerome Taylor and Mitchell McClenaghan once again were expensive in this game as well as St Lucia Stars bowling is turning to be their Achilles heel at the moment.

St Lucia Stars collapsed in the chase as Mohammad Hafeez dismissed Kamran Akmal and Johnson Charles in quick succession. Andre Fletcher was the sole contributor with the bat as he top-scored for Stars with 48 runs off 33 balls. Marlon Samuels and Shane Watson had no answer to spin duo of Hafeez and Nabi who dried up the rate of scoring in the middle over of the innings. Stars could only manage 163 run off 20 overs to concede their fourth successive defeat in this edition of Caribbean Premier League.

Nabi also dismissed three batsmen to finish with 3 for 15 from his four-over spell. Evin Lewis was named man of the match for his brilliant performance with the bat for Patriots.
