The last round-robin game of the Caribbean Premier League saw Evin Lewis’s blazing ton setup a dominant win for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots over Barbados Tridents.
The Tridents got off to a good start as openers Nicholas Pooran and Dwayne Smith added 43 runs at the top of the order. The game changed quickly in favor of Patriots as the side lost both the openers in quick succession. The middle order containing the likes of Kane Williamson, Kieron Pollard and Eoin Morgan failed to produce anything as Tridents could only get 129 runs off 20 overs. All-rounder Carlos Brathwaite picked four wickets followed by spinner Tabraiz Shami who picked up two wickets.
Patriots got off to a rampant courtesy of Evin Lewis who looked in the mood to finish things off quickly. Evin Lewis went on to score second fastest fifty of the competition as Patriots brought their 100 up inside 6 overs. The left-handed batsman did not let the pedal off the gas he smoked 11 sixes in his innings to steer his close to a comfortable win. Kieron Pollard denied him a much deserved century by bowling a wide to see Patriots win the game in the 7th over. He scored unbeaten 97 runs off 32 balls.
He shared an unbeaten partnership of 129 runs with Chris Gayle to see Patriots setup a knockout clash with Trinbago Knight Riders on 5th September in Qualifier 1 of 2017 Caribbean Premier League. While Tridents will feel that they lost many games in the middle phase of the competition to miss out on a place in the playoffs.
