Eoin Morgan and Jofra Archer delivered splendid performances to help England register a comfortable win over Pakistan in the one-off T20 game played at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
Chasing 174 runs to win, England openers got the side off to a brisk start. Left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi picked up wicket of Ben Duckett in the third over of the innings. James Vince looked in phenomenal form with the bat and picked up boundaries at regular intervals. He was well supported by Joe Root, who also played his shots to keep the scoreboard ticking at a good rate. Vince put on a 45-run partnership with Root to maintain the pressure on the Pakistani bowlers.
Left-arm orthodox spinner Imad Wasim dismissed Vince in the 9th over of the innings. England Skipper Eoin Morgan came out with positive intent and decided to take the attack to the bowlers.
He put on a 65-run partnership with Root to see England move a step closer towards victory. Morgan remained unbeaten till the end and smashed a six straight down the ground to see England complete the chase in final over of the innings. He scored 57 off 29 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes.
For Pakistan, Mohammad Hasnain and Imad Wasim bowled well and conceded less than eight runs an over in the innings.
Jofra Archer and Eoin Morgan produced superlative performances to help England beat Pakistan in Cardiff.
On a placid surface, Sarfaraz Ahmed had no hesitation but to bat first. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq perished for low scores. Babar Azam and Haris Sohail led the fightback in bid to rebuild the innings for Pakistan.
Azam looked in great touch with bat and played some scintillating shots in the early part of the innings. Haris Sohail proved to be ideal partner at the other end as the duo put on a 103-run partnership to help Pakistan post a competitive score on the board.
Azam scored 65 runs off 42 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes. He was well supported by Sohail, who scored 50 off 36 balls with the help of five fours and a six.
Both batsmen were well set at the crease when Eoin Morgan decided to bring debutant Jofra Archer into the attack. He immediately got rid of both the players in the same over to see Pakistan lose momentum at the back end of the innings. Pakistan was able to add 39 more runs courtesy of decent partnership between Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf.
For England, Debutant Jofra Archer was the standout bowler with two wickets to his name. Tom Curran and Adil Rashid also delivered tidy spells to keep Pakistan batsmen in check for majority of the innings
