England vs India 2018, 3rd Test – Preview

The third game of the five-match series between England and India will be played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Saturday. The game is scheduled to start at 10:00 GMT (15:30 IST). Hosts England currently has 2-0 lead in the five-match series after a massive win over India at Lords.

England Captain Joe Root will be hoping to continue their good form in this game as well and close out the series at Trent Bridge. The side will be wary of complacency as they lost games of cricket with greater frequency in the past couple of years. The last time England played at Trent Bridge was against South Africa. Hosts lost that game despite bowler-friendly conditions.

Alastair Cook needs to put runs at the top of the innings for England. Time is certainly running out for England’s legendary opener, who hasn’t done much since his double ton against Australia at Melbourne last year.

Keaton Jennings will need to produce a big score to cement his place in the side. The left-hander will need to do grind hard for runs against a decent Indian bowling attack.

England Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow are the two in-form players in this series. Root failed to make a big score in the last game but Bairstow chipped with 93 runs to help England gain a big lead in the game.

Jos Buttler looked in decent touch with the bat and will aim for a good score in this game. Chris Woakes was certainly a big surprise as a batsman after he scored his maiden ton at Lords. India certainly missed a trick by not including Umesh Yadav at Lords. Kuldeep Yadav was not required at all in conditions that provided assistance to pace bowlers.

James Anderson showed his class in conditions that were ideal for swing bowling. The 36-year old picked up nine wickets in the game played at Lords to help England another comfortable victory.

Stuart Broad also looked to back to his best given his four wickets in the second innings at Lords. Chris Woakes was splendid with the ball as well. Adil Rashid was not at all required with the ball.

On the other hand, India will need to improve their game if they stay alive in this series. Murali Vijay might be dropped from the side after registering a pair in the game at Lords. Shikhar Dhawan will take his place in the Final XI. Lokesh Rahul also might make way for Karun Nair after looking poor in seaming conditions.

Indian Captain Virat Kohli will be hoping to get in time for the game at Trent Bridge. The visitors will be hoping that Kohli will be available for the third test given his contribution with the bat.

Ajinkya Rahane is an experienced campaigner in the Indian batting lineup. He will certainly need to produce better runs with the bat in order for India stage a comeback in the series.

Hardik Pandya might also be replaced with Rishabh Pant given his poor returns with bat and ball.

Umesh Yadav or Jaspreet Bumrah will replace Kuldeep Yadav in the side for this game. Mohammad Shami and Ishant Sharma will be two frontline seamers for this game.
