England down Sri Lanka on DLS method to secure series

England put up another impressive all-round show to register an 18-run win on Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in the fourth ODI to secure the five-match series in Kandy on Saturday.The day started with England captain Eoin Morgan winning the toss and opting to bowl first, considering primarily the chances of the rain which was likely in the afternoon.

However, this time around, the home side put a much better show with the bat and put a decent total of 273 for seven on the board in their allotted 50 overs, courtesy half-centuries from wicket keeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella and all-rounder Dasun Shanaka.

Shanaka finished the innings with the top score of run-a-ball 66 with the help of four fours and five sixes, whereas Dickwell scored 52 off 70 balls with the help of five fours.All-rounder Thisara Perera also made a valuable contribution with the bat and scored 44 off 41 balls with the help of two fours and one six.For England, off-spinner Moeen Ali was the most successful bowler on show as he claimed figures of two for 55 in his 10 overs.

Visitors go 3-0 up in five-match ODI series with one to play

In reply, the visitors had a solid beginning with 52-run opening partnership between Jason Roy and Alex Hales.But both openers departed in quick succession to leave the visitors 76 for 2 after 15.4 overs.From there on, captain Eoin Morgan and Test captain Joe Root assembled an unbeaten 56-run partnership for the third wicket and took England to the score of 132 for 2 after 27 overs when rain interrupted the play and because of which, the game was called off eventually as England was declared winners after being ahead by 18 runs on Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

Morgan remained unbeaten on 31 off 34 balls with the help of three fours and one six, whereas Root remained not out on 32 off 57 balls.For Sri Lanka, off-spinner Akila Dhananjaya was the only successful bowler as he claimed figures of two for 27.
