Dwaine Pretorius, James Vince star as Paarl Rocks beat Jozi Stars

All-rounder Dwaine Pretorius delivered a superlative performance with bat and ball to help Paarl Rocks beat Jozi Stars by four wickets in the MSL game played at Boland Park on Friday.

The day started with Jozi Stars captain Temba Bavuma winnings the toss and opting to bat first. His decision did go well as Ryan Rickelton and Reeza Hendricks added 64 runs in the first 10 overs. Rickelton played well and scored 30 runs off 34 balls with the help of two boundaries.

However, once Hendricks in the 13th over, Stars failed to produce quick runs in the later stages of the innings. Rassie Van der Dussen and Daniel Christian added 52 runs together to help Jozi Stars post a modest total of 129 runs  for the loss of three wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Hendricks finished the innings with the top score of 40  off 34 balls with the help of three fours, whereas Rassie van der Dussen scored 30 not out off 29 balls. Daniel Christian also chipped in with unbeaten 23 off 19 balls with the help of one four and one six.

For Paarl Rocks,  left-arm chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi finished with decent figures of  1 for 20 in his four overs. Left-arm orthodox spinner Bjorn Fortuin and pacer Dwaine Pretorius bowled well and claimed one wicket each.

Chasing 130 runs to win the game,  Paarl got off to dismal start as both Henry Davids and his opening partner Cameron Delport departed inside the first two overs at the score of 11. However, a fantastic counter-attacking innings from Dwaine Pretorius saw the side score runs at a good rate. He played exceedingly well and scored  37 runs off 26 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes.

An excellent 55-run partnership between James Vince  and wicket-keeper Mangaliso Mosehle  made sure Paarl Rocks completed the target with four overs to space.

James Vince was the standout performer for Paarl Rocks and finished the innings with the top score of 43 runs off 28 with the help of four fours and one six , whereas Mosehle scored 31 runs off 21 balls with the help of one four and two sixes.

For his outstanding all-round performance, Dwaine Pretorius was awarded man of the match.
