Desperate Sri Lanka eye a consolation win over New Zealand

Beleaguered Sri Lanka will look for a much better show when they will face New Zealand in the third and final T20I game of the series in Pallekele on Friday.

The home side suffered a comfortable defeat in the second match of the series, courtesy sublime bowling performance from pace bowler Tim Southee, Seth Rance and Scott Kuggeleijn.

Come Friday, Skipper Lasith Malinga will be hoping that his team can deliver a strong show with the bat and ball in this dead rubber. Sri Lanka will be once again depending on opener Kusal Mendis, who looked the best of the lot in this T20I series. Niroshan Dickwella and Avishka Fernando put in crucial scores for the side in the previous game played against New Zealand.

The team management will also hope that wicket-keeper Kusal Perera, who is the most experienced player in the lineup, will need to deliver a notable score in this final game of the T20I series.

In the bowling department, the side will be relying on the likes of Akila Dhananjaya, Isuru Udana and Lasith Malinga to pick up wickets with the new-ball.

For New Zealand, Captain Tim Southee will be pleased with his side’s good performances in the T20I series.

In the batting department, the team management will be hoping that all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme and Ross Taylor will continue his good form. Wicket-keeper Tim Siefert, Colin Munro and Hamish Rutherford will need to produce runs for the side at the top of the innings.

In the bowling department, the focus will be on the pace trio of Seth Rance, Tim Southee and Scott Kuggeleijn to make early inroads. Todd Astle, might come in place of Ish Sodhi for this game.
