De Villiers Century conspires a remarkable comeback by Proteas

The fifth match of the series was played between England and South Africa at Newlands,Cape Town to decide the winner of the series. South Africa had managed to sneak a close victory from jaws of defeat in the last one day game played at the Wanderers, Johannesburg.

AB De Villiers won a crucial toss and decided to field first to utilize the early conditions. He produced moments of inspirational captaincy by bringing on Imran Tahir in the fifth over who trapped Jason Roy leg before wicket in the same over.
The in-form duo of Hales and Root once again forged a good partnership before Tahir trapped Root leg before to leave England at 76 for 2.Morgan once again fell for a paltry score to leave the team 3 wickets down for 85 runs. Alex Hales and Ben Stokes produced counter attacking partnership and once again it looked ominous that the hosts were in deep trouble.

The find of the summer for South Africa Kagiso Rabada brought his team back into the game by dismissing dangerous players like Stokes and Butler. There was no contribution from the late order players as Hales shined with his majestically crafted century of 112 runs that took England to defend a modest total of 237 runs from 50 overs.

In reply, South Africa got off to a worse start possible as Reece Topley took the prize scalps of De Kock and Du Plessis with his swinging deliveries to leave the hosts 2 wickets down for 14 runs.Rilee Rossouw also got out playing a false stroke off the bowling of Topley to see South Africa reeling at 22 for 3 after 7 overs.

It was once again the partnership between Hashim Amla and AB De Villiers that came to the rescue for the team as they managed to stabilize the innings and take South Africa towards half-way mark.

The duo has always managed to take their team out of trouble in many previous games. Hashim Amla played a supporting role to De Villiers who played a marvelous knock to bring up his 24th hundred in one day international cricket.
David Wiese also played a nice cameo to steer the host’s home with six overs remaining in the innings and win the series 3-2 to take one day series.
