Pace duo of Billy Stanlake and Pat Cummins produced inspiring bowling performances as Australia beat Sri Lanka by nine wickets in the second T20I in Brisbane on Wednesday to clinch three-match series.
The day started with Australian Captain Aaron Finch winnings the toss and opting to field first.
His decision paid instant dividend as Billy Stanlake dismissed Kusal Mendis in the second over of the innings. Pat Cummins and Ashton Agar also picked up crucial wickets to reduce Sri Lanka to 75 for 6 in the 11th over.
Hard-hitting bowling all-rounder Isuru Udana tried his best to give some respectability to the total, but his efforts went in vein as hosts were eventually bowled out for 117 runs in the 19th over.
Wicket-keeper batsman Kusal Perera finished the innings with the top score of 27 off 19 with the help of two fours and one six, whereas Danushka Gunathilaka scored 21 off 22 balls with the help of two fours and one six.
For Australia, Billy Stanlake finished with outstanding figures of 2 for 23 in his four overs, whereas Pat Cummins, Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa claimed two wicket each.
Host Australia beat Sri Lanka by nine wickets to take 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Chasing 119 to clinch the T20I series, Australia got off to a shaky start as Captain Aaron Finch was dismissed for a first-ball duck by Lasith Malinga. But a fantastic 117-run unbeaten partnership between David Warner and Steven Smith made sure Australia completed the target with seven overs to spare.
David Warner continued his rich vein form with the bat in this game and finished the innings with the top score 60 not out off 41 balls with the help of nine fours, whereas Smith scored unbeaten 53 off 36 balls with the help of six boundaries..
For his splendid batting performance, David Warner was awarded man of the match. The third and final game of the T20I series will be played at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.
