The third game of the series saw in form South African side taken on Australia at Durban. The surface provided plenty of runs as Steve Smith won the toss and elected to bat first. Australian openers came out all guns blazing as David Warner and Aaron Finch added over 100 runs in a space of first 12 overs.
David Warner was ruthless in his stroke play as he attacked South Africa’s premier Dale Steyn to all parts of the ground. Finch also joined as he made a quick-fire 53 runs off 34 balls and hit four sixes in his innings. Imran Tahir came into attack and dismissed Finch in the 13th over of the innings. Warner continued to be aggressive against South African bowling unit as he went on to score a brilliant century off 96 balls.He was looking in ominous form before Tahir dismissed him for 117 runs to see Australia placed 234 for 2 after 35 overs. Steven Smith also played well as he scored a hundred too in the game to help Australia pile up mammoth score of 371 runs on the board.
South Africa chase got off to decent start as openers Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock put on 66 run opening stand. Amla scored 45 runs before medium pacer John Hastings trapped him right in front of the stumps to see the hosts lose their first wicket. Faf du Plessis looked good at the crease but perished after scoring 33 runs before Travis Head got him in the 17th over of the innings.JP Duminy and Rilee Rossouw fell for low scores as South Africa were placed in a tricky situation at 217 for 5 after 32 overs. David Miller came to the crease at no.6 and played a blinder in the context of the game. He scored a sensational hundred off 69 balls to keep South Africa in the game till the end. He added 107 runs with Andile Phehlukwayo in an amazing win over Australia by four wickets. Miller remained unbeaten on 118 runs off 79 balls.He staged power packed performance in front of the crowds at Durban with ten fours and six sixes. Phehlukwayo also played well for his unbeaten 42 runs as he clobbered two sixes and four fours in his innings.
South Africa pulled off amazing win over Australia in the final over of the innings with the visitors bowling once again proved to their undoing in the game. South Africa has sealed the series and have won bilateral contest since 2009.Australia will have to play for pride in the next few games to make sure they avoid the embarrassment of a whitewash in the series.
