The Big Bash League saw Hobart Hurricanes register a comprehensive win over Adelaide Strikers by eight wickets at Blundstone Arena. The sides coming into this game were placed in the bottom half of the points standing make it an all-important clash in the league.
It was all-rounder Daniel Christian who floored the Adelaide batting lineup as he took five wickets and conceded 14 runs from his four overs. The bowlers put in fantastic performance for Hurricanes to see the batsmen knock off the runs in 17th over. Australian opener Tim Paine and D’Arcy Short got the Hurricanes to a great start as they put on 105 run opening stand to setup a comfortable win for the side.
Earlier in the day, Jake Weatherfield fell for 14 runs while Ben Duck played an entertaining innings of 31 runs off 17 balls before medium pacer Simon Milenko dismissed to see Strikers slump to 46 for 3 after 6 overs.
Hobart Hurricanes came into this game without Shaun Tait in their bowling lineup. Simon Milenko took key wickets of Jake Weatherfield and Ben Dunk but went for a lot of runs as Brad Hodge provided lone resistance with the bat as he scored 55 runs off 42 balls. Stuart Broad once again showed why he is one of best fast bowlers in world cricket by bowling an impressive spell upfront finishing with 1 for 17 from 4 overs. Christian did the most of the damage as he took wickets in his early spell but came back in the end to snaffle three wickets in the last over to see Adelaide Strikers get bundled out for 143 runs.
Hobart Hurricanes will be relieved to get a much need win under their belt while Strikers will rue the fact that batting has been a big let-down in this edition of Big Bash League.
