Cook and Root score centuries as England dominate on Day 1 of the Second Test at Manchester

The second Investec Test between England and Pakistan was played at Old Trafford Ground in Manchester.The England did make two changes in their line up with bowlers Steve Finn and Jake Ball dropped as Anderson and Stokes were slotted back into the side after hosts are trailing by 1-0 in the series.Pakistan did not make change as Alastair Cook won a crucial toss at Manchester and decided to bat first on a surface that will assist the spinners as the game goes on the Day 4 and Day 5.Pakistan did make inroad as Hales was cleaned up by a in swinging delivery from Mohammad Amir.The rest of day was dominated by Captain Alastair Cook as he went on to score his 29th ton in Test Cricket.The partnership between Cook and Root put England in a position of ascendancy as they were placed at 210 for 1 after 54 overs.Cook was eventually dismissed on 105 runs by left arm pacer Mohammad Amir as he dragged the ball onto the stumps.The 195 run partnership did put England in comfortable position as Joe Root piled on the runs while he was supported by James Vince and Gary Ballance.Joe Root notched up his tenth ton in Test Cricket and continued his great form as he ended unbeaten on 141 runs with Chris Woakes at the other end.England ended the day at 314 for 4 after 89 overs.Yasir Shah had a bad day at the office as he failed to any wickets and was expensive as Cook and Root played positively against him trying to negate any chances of spin on the opening day.
