Collective effort helps Chennai Super Kings overcome Sunrisers Hyderabad

Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu and Dwayne Bravo delivered splendid performances to see Chennai Super Kings earn a hard-fought win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 29th match of 2020 Indian Premier League played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bat first. The side off to poor start as opener Faf du Plessis perished for a duck in the second over of the innings. Promoted to open the innings, Sam Curran, played exceedingly well and scored 31 runs off 21 balls with the help of two fours and one six.

Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu came together at the crease and put on a 81-run partnership for the third wicket to stabilize the innings for Chennai Super Kings.

For Chennai, Shane Watson was the standout player with the bat and finished the innings with the top-score of 42 runs off 38 balls with the help of one four and three sixes. He was well supported by Ambati Rayudu, who chipped in with 41 runs off 34 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes.

Captain MS Dhoni and Ravendra Jadeja put in crucial scores at the back end of the innings to see Chennai post 167 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

For Sunrisers, pacer Sandeep Sharma was the standout bowler on display against Chennai and claimed two wickets in the match.

Chasing 168 runs for victory, Sunrisers start was far from ideal as Captain David Warner and Manish Pandey perished for single-digit scores.

Wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson put on a 32-run partnership in a bid to revive the innings. Sunrisers once again lost Jonny Bairstow at a crucial stage in the game.

Kane Williamson played well and added 40-run partnership with Priyam Garg to help Sunrisers keep their scoreboard ticking.

For Sunrisers, Williamson was the standout player for the side and finished the innings with the top-score of 57 runs off 39 balls with the help of seven boundaries. He was well supported by Priyam Garg, Rashid Khan and Vijay Shankar, who put in crucial scores for Sunrisers.

Despite efforts from Williamson, Shankar and Rashid, Sunrisers failed to get over the line and could only post 147 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

For Chennai, Leg-spinner Karn Sharma and Dwayne Smith bowled well and claimed two wickets, where Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur claimed crucial wickets for the side.

For all-round contributions with bat and ball, Ravindra Jadeja was named player of the match.
