Colin Munro, Luke Ronchi and Rumman Raees put in excellent performances to help Islamabad United register a mammoth 71-run win over Lahore Qalandars in the 17th match of 2020 Pakistan Super League. With such a convincing win, Islamabad United climbed to second position in the league table.
Lahore Qalandars Skipper Sohail Akthar won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision completely backfired as openers Luke Ronchi and Colin Munro got the side off to a flying start. The opening pair put on a mammoth 113-run partnership to lay down platform for the likes of Shadab Khan, Colin Ingram and Asif Ali to go for big runs in the later stages of the innings.
New Zealand opener Colin Munro was the standout player for Islamabad United. Left-hander put in scintillating performance and scored unbeaten 87 runs off 59 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes. He was well supported by the likes of Luke Ronchi and Colin Ingram, who produced scores of 48 and 29 respectively.
Pinch-hitter Asif Ali also delivered a breezy cameo of 20 runs off 6 balls with the help of three fours and one six to help Islamabad United post a daunting total of 198 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
For Lahore Qalandars, Mohammad Faizan, Salman Irshad and Mohammad Hafeez claimed one wicket each.
Chasing 199 runs was always to be a tough ask as Lahore Qalandars started off in worse possible fashion with Chris Lynn perishing for a duck. Salman Butt and Ben Dunk failed to capitalize on their decent starts to see Lahore Qalandars reeling at 69 for 5 after 11 overs.
Left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar and pacer Rumman Raees ran through the lower-order to end up with five wickets between them and dismiss Lahore Qalandars for 127 runs in 18.5 overs.
