Mumbai Indians fumbled in their chase to lose their second game of the season to Rising Pune Supergiants by 3 runs in a game played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Ben Stokes produced a stellar performance with the ball and took an excellent catch to dismiss Hardik Pandya off Jaydev Unadkat to turn the game in favor of Pune. Rohit Sharma produced a splendid half-century but the rest of the batting failed to chip with runs to see Mumbai fell agonizingly short of their eight win of the season.
Stokes and Unadkat picked up two wickets apiece as the duo bowled the last over of the innings to see Pune eke out a famous win away from home. Unadkat went for two sixes in the final over. Manoj Tiwary late cameo of 22 runs helped Rising Pune reach 160 runs off 20 overs. Mumbai Indians began their chase well with Jos Buttler and Parthiv Patel picking off boundaries in the initial overs of the innings.
Ben Stokes came into the attack and dismissed his England colleague Jos Buttler to see Pune get back into the game. Daniel Christian got rid of danger man Nitish Rana for 3 to put Pune on top in the game. Mumbai slumped to 122 for 5 but Rohit Sharma played well and anchored the whole innings to score 58 runs off 39 balls. He struck six boundaries and three sixes in an innings.
Mumbai required 35 runs off last three overs as Sharma was still at the crease and brought his half century in the penultimate overs of the innings. Pandya produced two boundaries off Stokes to keep Mumbai well truly in the game. But Sharma got out at wrong time to see Mumbai concede their second defeat of this season.
