Bangladesh outclass meek Sri Lanka to win by 23 runs

The match played in the Asia Cup between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium,Mipur saw a packed house for the evening.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first as they got off to a worse possible start with openers gone early in less than five overs.Mushfiqur Rahim also was dismissed after being short of his ground to leave Bangladesh at 26 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.Sabbir Rahman played a gritty innings of 80 runs off 54 balls under pressure as he was adequately supported by Shakib-ul-Hasan who scored 32 runs to form 82 run partnership to revive the innings after initial collapse.

Mahmudullah also played a nice cameo for 23 runs off 12 balls to take his team to score a total of 144 runs after 20 overs.

Srilanka in pursuit of the score got off to nice start as Dinesh Chandimal again played a good innings of 37 runs to provide good platform for others to follow.The Lankans were comfortably placed at 76 for 1 when spinners Mahmudullah and Shakib-ul-Hasan provided crucial breakthroughs to bring their team back into the contest.

After that Srilanka batsmen could not get any partnerships as regular fall of wickets saw them lose the game by 23 runs due to some tidy death overs by the likes of pacer Mustafizur Rahman.

The hosts are quickly gathering nice momentum after initial jitters created by an early loss to India while Sri Lanka story of problems continues to hamper their progress going way forward in the Asia Cup.
