The one-off one day game was played between Australia and Ireland at Willowmoore Park in Benoni. Australia once again put up a dominant performance with bowl and then chased down with ease to win the game by 9 wickets.
Australia won the toss and elected to field first as Ireland got off to a decent start with openers putting up a decent of 47 overs. Paul Sterling was the enforcer upfront with quick-fire 30 runs off 27 balls before he was dismissed by Scot Boland. William Porterfield and John Anderson continued in similar vein as Sterling provided a nice platform to build upon for the innings. Porterfield batted cautiously but leg spinner Adam Zampa trapped him leg before to see Ireland placed at 72 for 2 after 13 overs. Anderson played well and scored 39 runs off 49 balls before he was trapped leg before to give Boland his second wicket of the game.
John Hastings and Adam Zampa did pull things in favor of Australia in middle orders as Ireland lost 4 wickets for 25 runs to see them placed at 146 for 6 after 28 overs. Ireland in the end could only get 198 runs as they got bundled out in 45th over.
Australia in reply got off to brisk start as Warner came out all guns glazing as he scored 48 runs off 30 balls to see the side placed at 71 for 0 after 8 overs. Tim Murtagh dismissed Warner but Usman Khuwaja and Steve Smith put on a unbeaten 127 run stand to take their side to victory by nine wickets in the 30th over. Usman Khuwaja remained unbeaten for his 82 runs off 77 balls.He struck seven fours and two sixes in his innings while Captain Smith compiled a composed half century to steer their side to a comfortable win over Ireland.
Australia will now take on South Africa in five match one day series starting on 30th September at SuperSport Park in Centurion
