Pakistan cricket team is dubbed as favorites coming into this year’s Asia Cup that begins from 15th September in UAE.
Sarfaraz and co. know the conditions pretty well and play their home games in desert shores of UAE.
The Green shirts are placed alongside Hong Kong and India in Group A. They will play their opening game against Hong Kong on 16th September. They will face off against arch-rivals in a titanic clash that is set to take place on 19th September.
Let’s take a look at Pakistan’s squad for the Asia Cup 2018
The main strengths for Pakistan has been their bowling attack that consists of Hasan Ali, Junaid Khan and Mohammad Amir. Usman Khan Shinwari and Shaheen Afridi are also promising pace bowlers who have done well for Pakistan in a short of span. Leg-spinner Shadab Khan is the premier spinner for the side in limited-overs format. Faheem Ashraf also has a done a decent job as fifth bowler in the side.
Pakistan’s Achilles heel has been their batting as they need to deliver as a unit against better teams in one-day cricket. Sarfaraz and co. did complete a clean sweep over Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe but Asia Cup will certainly hold a big challenge for all players in the batting lineup. It is evident that Pakistan is increasingly reliant on Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam to do bulk of the scoring.
Shoaib Malik has been consistent performer for Pakistan in the middle order. Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed needs to chip in with more runs on regular basis to make Pakistan can post big totals in this competition.
Player to watch out for Pakistan in Asia Cup
On the basis of current form, Fakhar Zaman is one player that can certainly make a big impact for Pakistan in this year’s competition. He has put in staggering numbers since making his debut for green shirts in one-day cricket in 2017. It will be a big test for him as Zaman will need to score runs against quality sides like India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
On the bowling front, leg-spinner Shadab Khan will play a crucial role in the middle overs of the innings. He has been consistent with the ball and gives Pakistan control in the middle phase of the innings.
Prediction: Pakistan have big advantage of playing in these conditions. They have plenty of talent in the squad that can help win this year’s Asia Cup.
