The opening game of Asia Cup 2018 will be played between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 15th September.
The two sides played each other in the Nidahas Trophy knockout game, in which Bangladesh came out on top in a contest that had its fair of drama and controversy.
The live action will start at 5:00 PM on Saturday (15th September) at Dubai Cricket Stadium.
Bangladesh prevailed in an intense encounter against Sri Lanka played in Nidahas Trophy. The Islanders would be determined to take revenge for their defeat and start on a winning note in Dubai.
Sri Lanka captain Angelo Matthews will be determined to make sure Sri Lanka can change their fortunes in limited-overs cricket. They have poor and inconsistent with bat and ball. Matthews played well in the recent series against South Africa. The side has suffered a setback of sorts as Dinesh Chandimal and Danushka Gunathilaka are ruled out of the Asia Cup due to injuries. Premier bowler Akila Dhananjaya will miss the initial few games due to personal reasons.
Veteran pace bowler Lasith Malinga has been included in the squad but it will be interesting to see how he goes in this competition. On the other hand, Bangladesh will be hoping that Shakib Al Hasan plays this game. The all-rounder has been suffering from a finger injury.
The side is coming into Asia Cup on the back of a successful tour to West Indies. Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mushfiqur Rahim did exceedingly well in the ODI and T20I series held in West Indies.
The surfaces are expected to batsmen friendly with temperatures expected to be on the higher side in this month. Group B is certainly going to be tougher with Afghanistan rising through the ranks in the one-day game. Both the sides will be focused to make sure they get off to a good start in this opening game of the competition.
