The final game of the bilateral one day series between South Africa and Sri Lanka was played at SuperSports Park, Centurion. The hosts went on to make another clean sweep against Sri Lanka as Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock smashed splendid tons to see the side post yet another mammoth score on the board as Sri Lanka needed 385 runs off 50 overs.
Sri Lanka never looked in the hunt as openers Niroshan Dickwella and Upul Tharanga fell early in the innings. The new ball pair of Chris Morris and Wayne Parnell bowled probing spells to see the visitors in all sorts of trouble at 82 for 5 after 13 overs. Sri Lanka late order put up a splendid fight as Asela Gunaratne and Sachith Pathirana added 93 runs to add some respectability to the score.
Gunaratne played well and went on to notch up his maiden century while Pathirana scored 56 runs before Morris dismissed him to claim his third wicket of the innings. Gunaratne remained unbeaten for his 114 runs while the other fell around him to see Sri Lanka get dismissed for 296 runs from 50 overs to see South Africa win the game by 88 runs. Chris Morris was pick of the bowlers for South Africa as he picked up four wickets and conceded only 31 runs from his 10 overs.
Earlier in the game, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. Hashim Amla had a lean run in the format coming into this game but certainly took his chance from both hands to notch up 24th ton of his career. Quinton de Kock also came good in this game as duo added 187 runs for the opening wicket. Amla batted till the end before he was dismissed by Lahiru Madushanka for 154 runs. He struck 15 boundaries and 5 sixes in his innings as South Africa went on to register a gigantic total of 384 runs on the board.
South Africa is on a roll as a side in the one day format and produced yet another clean sweep against Sri Lanka. Hashim Amla was awarded man of the match for his marvelous batting performance while Faf du Plessis was named man of the series for scoring 410 runs in the five match series.
