Karachi Kings managed to pull off a nine-run win against Peshawar Zalmi to notch up their second win of the competition. Shahid Afridi was back to his best with the bat after Zalmi were in all sorts of trouble in the chase while chasing a score of 174 posted from 20 overs by Karachi Kings.
Peshawar batted poorly in their chase as the side faltered at 69 for 6 by staring down another defeat till Shahid Afridi and Darren Sammy came to the crease to the lead the fightback and take the game till the last over of the innings. The experienced duo added 70 runs to the side get back in frame to win the contest but Kings picked up wickets as critical moments to end up on the winning side.
Afridi started the onslaught with the bat as he smashed two huge sixes off the bowling of left arm pacer Muhammad Amir in 13th over of the innings. He then hit consecutive fours and then hit a towering six off Sohail Khan to see Peshawar got back into the contention of pulling off an improbable win. Afridi top scored for the side with 54 runs off 28 balls but all went in vain as Usama Mir bowled a brilliant last over to see Kings win the game by nine runs.
Earlier, Kings batted first after Darren Sammy won the toss and opted to field first.Babar Azam and Kumar Sangakkara got the side off to a decent start before Shoaib Malik smashed 27 ball 51 runs to see the side post 174 runs off 20 overs. Ravi Bopara scored 30 runs while Azam continued his rich vein of form to scored 46 runs to help the side post a competitive score on the board.
The fast bowlers were expensive on the night for Zalmi as Malik took full opportunity to strike three sixes and four fours in his innings.Karachi Kings are a side on the up and seemed to have found a rhythm in the competition after wretched start that saw them lose three games at the start. Peshawar Zalmi suffered consecutive defeat and will now have to win all their games to qualify for the playoffs of the competition.
