Abid Ali, Naseem Shah stars as Sri Lanka clinch Test series

Outstanding performances from Abid Ali, Babar Azam and Naseem Shah was enough for Pakistan to clinch two-match Test series with a comprehensive  263-run win in the second Test in Karachi on Monday.

The game started with the Pakistan Captain Azhar Ali winning the toss and opting to bat first on a freshly prepared wicket. The decision completely backfired as Sri Lanka bowlers got plenty of assistance from the surface. Express pacer Lahiru Kumara and spinner Lasith Embuldeniya claimed four wickets each to see Sri Lanka dismiss Pakistan for just 191 runs in 59.3 overs.

In reply, Sri Lanka fared much better due to crucial batting performances from Dinesh Chandimal, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dilruwan Perera saw the side to post 271 runs 85.5 overs.

With the home side in serious pressure, the batting department delivered the goods in the second innings. Shan Masood and Abid Ali put on a 278-run partnership for the opening wicket. Shan Masood scored 135 runs off 198 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes, whereas Abid Ali notched up his second ton in Test cricket. Rookie opener played well and finished the innings with the top-score of 174 runs off 281 balls with the help of 21 fours and one six.

Hosts Pakistan registered a comprehensive 263-run win against Sri Lanka in the second Test played at National Cricket Stadium in Karachi.

Captain Azhar Ali and Babar Azam to see Pakistan pile on the runs and declare their second innings at 555 for 3 declared after 131 overs.

Chasing 475 on that pitch was always going to be tough and so it proved to be as Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 212 during the last day’s morning session. Opener Oshada Fernando was the only batsmen and scored his maiden ton in Test cricket. He scored 102 runs off 180 balls with the help of 13 boundaries.

For Pakistan, pacer Naseem Shah bowled well and claimed his maiden five-wicket haul. For his outstanding batting performance, Abid Ali was named man of the match. For scoring 321 runs in 2 matches, Abid Ali was named man of the series.
