Aaron Finch produced a blistering innings of 72 run to propel Gujarat Lions to victory over Royal Challengers at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in 31st game of Indian Premier League. The result is huge blow to Bangalore who chances for qualifying for playoffs are getting slimmer by each game they play in the competition. Gujarat Lions needed this win badly to stay afloat and keep their hopes alive for making it to the last four of the competition. The bowlers finally produce a clinical performance with the ball in hand to restrict Royal Challengers Bangalore star-studded batting lineup to modest total of 134 runs off 20 overs.
Ishan Kishan partnered with Brendon McCullum at the top for this game. Kishan struck four boundaries for perishing for 16 runs to see Gujarat lose their first wicket. Samuel Badree took out McCullum to claim his first wicket of the innings. Gujarat Lions were precariously placed at 23 for 2 after 4.1 when Aaron Finch came to the crease to join Captain Suresh Raina. Finch was the aggressor of the two as he took the attack to the RCB bowling lineup.
Finch smashed six sixes and was particularly severe on the spinners who failed to produce any breakthroughs for home side. He scored 72 runs off 34 balls before dismissed by Pawan Negi in the 12th over while Raina remained unbeaten on 34 runs to help Gujarat seal the win in the 13th over and move to sixth place in overall points table in Indian Premier League
Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore could not muster anything as Andrew Tye got rid of Chris Gayle in the initial overs of the innings. Basil Thampi dismissed Virat Kohli for 10 while Tye got his second win to dismiss Travis Head to see Bangalore reduced to 22 for 3 inside 4 overs. Kedhar Jadhav and Pawan Negi chipped with useful 30s to help Bangalore put up 134 runs on the board. The pick of the bowlers for Gujarat were Andrew Tye and Ravendra Jadeja who took two wickets apiece while Ankit Soni and Basil Thampi produced tidy spells.
