Ajinkya Rahane-led side registered a crucial win against Kings XI Punjab
Jos Buttler played a stunning knock to keep Rajasthan Royals alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 edition with a 15-run win against Kings XI Punjab in Jaipur on Tuesday. The day started with the home side captain Ajinkya Rahane winning the toss and opting to bat first in great conditions.
His decision proved a correct one, courtesy Buttler’s stunning knock of 82 off 58 balls with the help of nine fours and one six which took Rajasthan to a respectable total of 158 for eight in their allotted 20 overs. Buttler was well-supported by young Sanju Samson, who scored 22 off 18 balls with the help of one and one six.
For Punjab, pacer Andrew Tye was the most successful bowler on the night as he claimed four, whereas young Afghanistan leg-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman claimed two wickets.
In reply, Punjab had a weird batting display, where apart from opener KL Rahul, only all-rounder Marcus Stoinis managed to enter double figures (11) as the team was restricted to 143 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Rahul was the real star for the side as he scored an astonishing 95 not out off just 70 balls with the help of 11 fours and two sixes, but just never received any help from the other end as explosive opener Chris Gayle, captain Ravichandran Ashwin, Karun Nair, Akshdeep Nath, Manoj Tiwary and Axar Patel managed scores of 1, 0, 3, 9, 7, 9.
For Rajasthan, off-spinner Krishnappa Gowtham was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed figures of two for 12 in three overs, whereas pacers Jofra Archer, Jaydev Unadkat, Ben Stokes and leg-spinner Ish Sodhi claimed one wicket each. The win means Rajasthan now have eight points in 10 matches and are placed on the sixth position in the league table.
