Pacer claims four wickets to help Karachi register seven-wicket win over Islamabad United
Usman Shinwari produced an outstanding spell of fast bowling to help Karachi Kings register playoffs berth as they thrashed Islamabad United by seven wickets in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Sharjah on Friday.
In the match where Kings had to win or at least avoid crushing defeat to qualify for the next round, stand-in captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and opted to field first.His decision proved a correct one as United, who went without in-form wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Ronchi, lost JP Duminy and Alex Hales at the score of 17 inside the first four overs.
Captain Misbah-ul-Haq promoted himself up the order and estabilise the innings with a 35-run third-wicket partnership with Chadwick Walton.However, once Misbah departed in the ninth over on the bowling of veteran all-rounder Shahid Afridi, United once again lost their way and were eventually bowled out for just 124 in 19 overs.
Young Asif Ali finished the innings with the top score of 34 off 14 balls with the help of one four and four sixes.For Kings, Shinwari was the star of the show as he claimed figures of four for 17 in his four overs. He was well supported by Afridi, who claimed two wickets and gave away 18 runs in his four overs.
Chasing 125 was never going to be tough for the Kings batting lineup, and so it proved to be as they went over the line with three overs to spare at the expense of just three wickets.Opener Joe Denly finished the innings with the top score of 36 off 28 with the help of six fours and one six, whereas Babar Azam and Colin Ingram played handy unbeaten knocks of 29 and 31 off 26 and 30 balls respectively.
For Islamabad United, pacers Steven Finn, Faheem Ashraf and leg-spinner Shadab Khan claimed a wicket each.For his outstanding bowling performance, Usman Shinwari was named player of the match.
