Rashid Khan once again was the star of the show for Afghanistan as they completed a 3-0 whitewash over Bangladesh in the third T20 game of the series played at Dehradun. The leg-spinner was called on to bowl the final over of the game as Afghanistan needed to defend 8 runs to win the game.
Bangladesh looked in a strong position as the duo of Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim scoring runs at a good rate. Mushfiqur needed to better much this time around given his failure to get Bangladesh in the final over against India in the 2016 World T20 Cup. He perished off the first ball leaving Mahmudullah all to do for Bangladesh. The team management looked clueless as Bangladesh lacked game plan to score the runs to win the game. Ariful Haque consumed a lot of deliveries to see Afghanistan eke out a small win.
Bangladesh got off to worse possible start losing Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan and Soumya Sarkar in the first 10 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah came together and led the fightback for Bangladesh as they added 84 runs to keep the side in the game. Mushfiqur smashed five boundaries in the 19th over to see Bangladesh needing another 8 runs to win the game. The spinners did a terrific job for Afghanistan as Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb Zadran conceded less than six runs an over. Rashid Khan also finished with 24 for 1 from his four overs.
Earlier in the game, Afghanistan batted and were comfortably placed at 95 for 2 after 12 overs. The side lost momentum as Bangladesh bowlers made a comeback in the game to restrict Afghanistan to 145 for 6 in 20 overs. Mohammad Shehzad and Asghar Stanikzai chipped with useful scores for Afghanistan. Samiullah Shinwari also chipped in with unbeaten 33 runs to help Afghanistan post a competitive score on the board.
