MS Dhoni delivers at last as Rising Pune Supergiants defeat Kings XI Punjab by four wickets

The 53rd game in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League saw two bottom table teams slugging it out to salvage some pride as Rising Pune Supergiants played Kings XI Punjab at ACA-VDCA stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Kings XI Punjab was keen to end with a win but MS Dhoni played a superb knock as he unleashed two sixes off last ball to give his side a much needed win in their last game.MS Dhoni has not been his usual self from the last one year but this innings brought some memories of what a belligerent and brute striker of cricket ball he was in his heydays. The final over began as Rising Pune Supergiants needed 23 runs. Kings XI Punjab captain Murali Vijay main seamers Mohit Sharma and Sandeep Sharma did bowled out their share of overs leaving all for Axar Patel to do in the last over to contain opposition batsmen.MS Dhoni was the main on the mission as he took the strike and finished the game against Axar Patel. He remained unbeaten and scored 64 runs off 32 balls.

MS Dhoni came to the crease to join Thisara Perera in 14th over when Rising Pune Supergiants were reeling at 86 for 5 in pursuit to chase down the score set by Kings XI Punjab. Thisara Perera started to initiate the onslaught as struck three boundaries off Kyle Abbott as MS Dhoni gained confidence as smashed two fours off Sandeep Sharma to bring the equation with Rising Pune needing 29 runs from 2 overs.

Earlier in the day, Murali Vijay won the toss and decided to bat first to put a good total on the board for their bowlers to defend easily. The openers for Kings XI Punjab Murali Vijay and Hashim Amla added 60 runs for the opening stand but Ravichandran Ashwin came on to the attack and dismissed both to leave Kings XI placed at 123 for 3.Gurukeerat Singh also struck a quick-fire fifty runs off 30 balls to take the total to 172 runs on the board.

The loss for Kings XI Punjab ended their woeful campaign as all their big players looked out of form and never recovered after a wretched start in Indian Premier League while Rising Pune ended their poor campaign with a win under their belt even though guys like Dhoni and Ashwin struggled and were out of form in the tournament.
