Jaspreet Bumrah produced another masterclass in the penultimate over as India beat New Zealand by six runs in the third T20I in Thiruvananthapuram to clinch series with 2-1 score line on Tuesday.Due to poor weather conditions, the match was reduced to eight-over-a-side game.
The day started with Black Caps captain Kane Williamson winning the toss and opting to field first.His decision paid dividend as India lost Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan on consecutive deliveries in the third over after a sluggish start on a difficult pitch.Captain Virat Kohli, Manish Pandey and all-rounder Hardik Pandya played crucial little hands to help India post competitive looking 67 for the loss of five wickets.
Pandya finished the innings with the top score of 17 off 11 with the help of single boundary and a six.For New Zealand, pacer Tim Southee and leg-spinner Ish Sodhi claimed two wickets each.In reply, Black Caps had an even poorer beginning as both Martin Guptill and last match centurion Colin Munro departed in the first nine deliveries.
Wicketkeeper batsman Glenn Phillip and captain Williamson tried to steer the ship, but with run rate climbing up, William was run out in the fifth over, which tilted the game in India’s favour.With 21 needing off the final two overs, Bumrah delivered a masterpiece and just gave away two runs in the penultimate over to put the Men in Blue firmly in control.Nineteen off the final over against all-rounder Pandya was always going to be a tough task for the visitors, who fell seven runs short of the target.All-rounder Colin de Grandhomme finished New Zealand’s innings with the top score of 17 off 10 balls with two maximums.
For India, Jaspreet Bumrah claimed two, whereas leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bowled two superb overs in the middle and gave away just eight runs to prove himself a real silent soldier for the hosts.For his outstanding bowling throughout the series, Jaspreet Bumrah was awarded man of the match and man of the series.
