Both teams will clash in the first T20I of the three-match series on Wednesday
High-flying Bangladesh will be ready to get the better of demoralized West Indies in the first T20I of the three-match series in Basseterre on Wednesday. The home side was outright winners in the two-Test series, courtesy an innings and 219 run win in the first match and 166-run triumph in the second game.
In the 50-over format, however, the visiting side made a grand comeback by winning the three-match series 2-1. In the first game, it was Mashrafe Mortaza-led side who registered a comfortable 48-run win. In the second game, the home side just managed to stay alive in the series with a three-run win, but in the series decider, it was Bangladesh who came on top with an impressive 18-run victory.
In the shortest format of the game, the home side will go without the services of veteran explosive opener Chris Gayle, who is being rested by the selectors. In his absence, the team will be depending on the likes of Evin Lewis, Marlon Samuels, Denesh Ramdin, Andre Russell and Rovman Powell to provide the bulk of the scoring.
In the bowling department, the team will be heavily relying on the experience of leg-spinner Samuel Badree to make the inroads, whereas he will be supported by off-spinner Ashley Nurse and pacers Kesrick Williams and Keemo Paul.
On the other hand, Bangladesh will be depending on the experienced trio of left-handed opener Tamim Iqbal, wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and captain Shakib Al Hasan to do the bulk of the scoring, whereas in-form Mahmudullah can prove to be a vital component in providing the finishing touch to the innings. In the bowling department, the focus will be on left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman to provide the early breakthroughs as well as controlling runs at the back end of the innings, whereas off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead the spin attack.
The pitch is expected to be a good one for batting, whereas the weather is expected to stay fine throughout.
