Delhi Daredevils held onto their nerves to clinch a close win against Rising Pune Supergiant in 52nd game of Indian Premier League played at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. The hosts were eliminated from the competition but still showed guts and determination throughout the game to end Pune winning streak of four games on the bounce.
Daredevils were able to defend a score of 169 runs posted while batting first in the game. Manoj Tiwary was the only batsman in the chase to produce runs as he scored 60 runs off 45 balls to take Pune close to chase down the score. Rising Pune got off to poor start as Rahul Tripathi and Ajinkya Rahane were dismissed by Zaheer Khan.
Steven Smith played well and was swift in his footwork to pick boundaries.He looked good at the crease but could not get a big score as he was trapped leg before wicket by left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem. Stokes batted well for his 33 runs but Pune kept losing wickets at crucial moments to end up conceding their fifth defeat of the season. The crucial run-out of MS Dhoni by Mohammad Shami also was a big turning point in the game.
Earlier, Karun Nair smashed 64 runs to help Delhi register 168 runs off 20 overs. Rishabh Pant and Marlon Samuels chipped in with crucial scores along the way to see Delhi post a modest total on the board.
