Axar Patel hat-trick inspires Kings XI Punjab to defeat Gujarat Lions by 23 runs

The twenty-eighth game in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League saw bottom table, Kings XI Punjab take on leaders,Gujarat Lion at Saurashtra  Cricket Stadium,Rajkot.Axar Patel was the player of the match as he took four wickets and a hat-trick in a over to help his side register a remarkable victory against Gujarat Lions.Axar Patel with his guile and variation struck as Lions slumped to 57 for 6 after 10 overs in their quest to chase down a modest total scored of 155 runs put by Kings XI Punjab.

Kings XI Punjab were put into bat first after Suresh Raina won the toss for Gujarat Lions and decided to field first.Murali Vijay and new opener Marcus Stoinis got off to terrific start as they put on 65 run partnership in a space of 7 overs.The slide came for Kings XI Punjab when Stoinis got dismissed for 27 as he was outfoxed by Ravendra Jadeja to be stumped by the keeper.The left arm chinaman Shivil Kaushik came on and got key wickets of  Shaun Marsh and Glenn Maxwell to bring lions back into the game.The terrible mix up between Vijay and Gurkeerat Singh saw Gurkeerat fell short of his ground to see Kings XI Punjab four wickets down for the score of 73 runs.

Murali Vijay was the mainstay of the innings as he scored 55 runs off 41 balls to keep the scoreboard ticking along at a nice rate.David Miller and Wriddhiman Saha also scored crucial runs to help their side reach 155  runs after 20 overs.The start for Lions was poor as well as both openers fell early to leave lions placed at 34 for 2.Suresh Raina also failed to make any impression as he was cleaned up by fast bowler Mohit Sharma.The game turning point was when Axar Patel to came into the attack and took three wickets in an over to leave Lions reeling at 39 for 5 after 7 overs.Though Ishan Kishan and James Faulkner fought till the end but in the end the game was lost by then as Kings XI Punjab won by 23 runs.

The win gives Kings XI Punjab some breather after horrible campaign thus far while Gujarat Lions suffered their second loss of the Indian Premier League this season.
